Documents stay on your device; cloud voices send the text being read to Microsoft speech services; includes ads, analytics, crash reporting, in-app purchases and anonymous usage metering.

Scope

This privacy policy applies to the Android app “Read Aloud - Text to Speech” (package com.iteddy.readaloud, called Read Aloud on this site), published on Google Play by ITeddy. It explains what the app collects, why, who it is shared with, and how you can have it deleted. It matches the Data safety section of the app’s Google Play listing.

What stays on your device

Articles, PDFs, Word documents and EPUB books you import are stored on your device and are never uploaded to our servers. When you use your device’s built-in speech engine or a downloaded offline voice, the text does not leave your device.

What we collect

The following data leaves the device to the services we use. Unless stated otherwise it is collected automatically and contains no name, email address or phone number.

  • App interactions and other actions (Firebase Analytics): which screens you open, which features you use and in-app events, together with an app-instance ID, device model, OS version, language and country/region. None of this includes your name or contact details.
  • Crash logs and diagnostics (Firebase Crashlytics): stack traces, device and OS information at the time of a crash, and app state, used to find and fix faults.
  • Device or other IDs: the advertising ID (AdMob), the Firebase app-instance ID and a random anonymous user ID generated by RevenueCat. None of these identify you by name, and the advertising ID can be reset in system settings.
  • Purchase history (RevenueCat and Google Play Billing): which item you bought or subscribed to, when, and its status, used to unlock paid features and restore purchases. Google Play handles payment; we never see your card or bank details.
  • Text being read (cloud voices only): when you pick a cloud voice, the passage currently being spoken is sent over an encrypted connection to Microsoft speech services (Azure Speech or Edge Read Aloud) for synthesis. We do not keep this text; Microsoft handles the request under its own privacy statement.
  • Anonymous account and usage meter: to enforce the free allowance for cloud voices, the app signs in anonymously with Firebase, which creates a random account ID, and records in Firebase Cloud Firestore how many characters that ID has used in the current period and when it was last updated. It contains no name, email or other identifying information.

How we use it

  • Providing and maintaining app features, such as unlocking paid features, restoring purchases and enforcing free allowances.
  • Measuring how features are used so we know what to improve.
  • Finding and fixing crashes and faults.
  • Serving ads and measuring their performance.
  • Verifying purchases and preventing fraud and abuse.

Third-party services and sharing

We do not sell your personal information. The services below process data under their own privacy policies: Google AdMob receives the advertising ID, device diagnostics and in-app interaction data to serve and measure ads; Firebase and RevenueCat act as our service providers and process data only on our behalf.

Permissions

  • Network: cloud voices, offline-voice downloads, and ads, usage statistics, crash reporting and purchase verification.
  • Foreground service and notifications: to keep reading in the background or with the screen off, and to show playback controls in the notification shade.
  • Wake lock: to stop the device sleeping mid-playback.

Retention and deletion

Data stored on the device is removed when you uninstall the app. Server-side data you can ask us to delete: Analytics, crash and purchase records linked to your app-instance ID, advertising ID or RevenueCat anonymous ID, plus the anonymous account and its usage meter.

To request deletion, email dola724gg@gmail.com and mention the app name “Read Aloud - Text to Speech”. We handle requests within 30 days. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in system settings at any time.

Your choices

  • In the EEA, UK and Switzerland the app shows an ad-consent prompt on first launch, where you can decline personalised ads.
  • In system settings under Google › Ads you can opt out of ad personalisation or reset the advertising ID.
  • Purchases and subscriptions can be managed or cancelled from the Subscriptions page in Google Play.

Security

All network traffic uses HTTPS or an equivalent encrypted connection. We never store your photos, documents or payment details on servers of our own.

Children

The app is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children; if we learn we have done so, we delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

Updates are published on this page with a new version date; material changes are also noted in the app’s release notes.
